Hello,
In my opinion, the improvement consists mainly in adding 5 tracks :
25. Preparazione (# 2) 3:15
26. Queimada (marcia) 1:11
28. Queimada seconda (# 2) 0:42
29. Queimada (William e Josè # 2) 1:13
30. Verso il futuro (# 7) 4:53
(They didn't find Verso il futuro # 42 ?!)

As I mentioned on Notes/credits for this movie ( http://www.chimai.com/index.cfm?module=MOV&id=64866 ) were still unreleased :
The main titles, a close and shorter version of Aboliçao
Solo bongos (preparazione 2 ?)
Backgrounds of bongos and percussion sustained ethnic chants and dances
The fanfare of the English army (marcia)

A good news, because of these nearly 12 min., and because the CD dates already from 2001. (Gosh, the time runs very fast !). But firstly because such a masterpiece (both music and film) deserves an edition as complete as possible.

Nice artwork but I'm afraid I'll have to stick to the previous album which is really fine for my liking. Patrick, there should logically be less than 11' of unreleased material on the new CD since the previous one was 55'09 long? This would mean hardly 9' of bonus or were some bits from the 2001 CD suppressed? I must say I don't know where the difference of timing lies. Within this rich score, Verso il futuro is an absolute masterpiece and definitely my favourite piece. Besides the gorgeous hymn-like main theme - a tremendous success live as we know - there's also the mysterious Bach quote featured as the too short Pezzo classico, one element probably imposed by the "Bach freak" Pontecorvo as he one called himself in an interview reproduced in MSV. ATK, I don't remember right now whether this superb melody has been identified so far. I hope the new CD doesn't simply credit it to EM and rather mentions him as the arranger.
I'll wisely wait for further comments on the new tracks to make up my mind.

P.S. : I played the 2001 CD again this morning. This great score certainly makes for both a deep and entertaining experience. Following the little chat about the trumpet lately, I wanted to stress the very dissonant trumpets featured in Studi per un finale. Typically morriconian!

Also there's no doubt a symbolic religious value in the key chosen by the Maestro for the main theme Aboliçao: E flat Major (Mi bemolle maggiore, as ATK would say): three alterations (like in the key of C minor used not by chance in MOSES) likely represent the Trinity, like in Bach's mind.

Laurent ;)

Laurent,

The timing difference seems to come from the fact that the inedit called Preparazione is not track 25 as one would expect, but track 13 instead. Track 25 has more or less the same duration as the known track, whereas track 13 is 1:30 shorter.

Aboliçao definitely has religious roots, since it was based on the Missa Luba.

Hello Laurent, very soon awaked, and Didier and the others,

As the CD from 2001 runs 54 min., the new one adds actually 10 min. and not 12, reaching 64 min., because the Intermezzo’s list wrongly mentions “Preparazione 2” as 3’15, instead of 1’45, as Didier wrote before me.
Would it be the last edition ? No, it misses the main credits music, a minor variant (but I recorded it from the DVD, the sound is good, with the rifle shots), so that it wouldn't be exhaustive    .

Milan NS, I don’t know what means “Lemme at it”. I tried to found out what means “lemme” or the latin “lemma”, but there is 3 meanings in mathematics, philosophy and grammar. I just don’t know still today why we speak of “lemma” about datas and references.
Anyway, I enjoyed the comics gag, very rare in this forum, which evokes for me a little Robert Crumb, an author of best quality.

Hello Patrick, foreigner here (Serbia), but I'm pretty sure R. Crumb is just saying "let me at it" (let me - lemme, give me - gimme), meaning "I can't wait to get my hands on this one", a cartoon I always use when I'm excited about some new release.

This news got me to log into this board after quite some time. This is great and I'm so looking forward to holding this CD in my hands (I have never owned the GDM release). I am a very happy camper at the moment.

I try not to knock any releases, as Im grateful for anything that keeps Ennio's music available to more people.
And Im always pleased for those who want a release, or missed out or lap up the extra few cues on an expanded expanded CD.
However, me personally, I agree with laurent, I love this classic score and it gets a regular airing but I'm quite happy with the previously-expanded stereo one I've got and have never noticed any 'imperfections', certainly not major ones to my ears.
I am open to persuasion if anyone wants to tell me what these imperfections are?

This was one of the first non-western Morricone scores I bought. I saw the film on TV on a screening on BBC2 in the early 1970s and paid £4 for the LP at a Film Fair a few days later!
