This Release:
Ogro - Digitmovies CDDM208 - Italy - March 2012
20 Tracks
Total Duration: 44:16
Stereo
"For the realization of our CD we could use the stereo master tapes of the original session which allowed us to re-create the assembly of the limited edition album which had been released in 1984 in the Phoenix series of CAM (12 tracks, 30:21) and to add eight tracks discovered in the master, approved by the author, which led to a total time of 44:16. Ennio Morricone has composed musical moods suspended between religious and noir atmospheres (tracks 1,7,16,18,20), alternated with marches (tracks 3,4,8,14), and where suspenseful castanets intervene which give a certain ethnic connotation to the compositions (tracks 2,5,6,10,12,15)."

OGRO (1979) was previously released on LP only, in a limited edition of 1000 copies:
Ogro - Phoenix PHCAM 04 - Italy - 1984
12 Tracks
Total Duration: 28:58

Finally !
I like very much this music, of noir genre and a little dissonnant but although very listenable.
It seems short, but surely the soundtrack is not long, so we will have the very most important part of it.

Hoping that the "author's choice" on the CAM's material has been well inspired (43 minutes is becoming a standard pattern ? ) I suppose is available now on this CD the main and end titles, remaining unreleased for longtime (perhaps under the titles "Ogro" ?) !! I wouldn't not be surprised that the Bachian end titles were finally by EM (we had always a doubt).

My favourites were aways Tunnel 1 and 2, Missione compiuta, Canto basco, and above all, the outstanding Flashback (please hear the sonorities and the dramatic increasing !). And, of course, Atto di dolore can be perceived, at least by me, as a prequel of the Mafia' style.

So all the Pontecorvo-Morricone are now issued, great.

Patrick

FLASHBACK is especially very good one!

I remember few years ago, when i watched this movie, i loved this piece, the same FLASHBACK like in GIU LA'TESTA, but only memories by Volonte ... not by Coburn...

Morricone knows how to make a good piece - passage into old times to remembering......

FLASHBACK is very suitable piece for this movie!

I also like this score a lot but I have the feeling it's not to everyone's taste. I really hope the
sound quality has been improved because the old vinyl LP has a rather poor sound.

@Patrick, is this the "Bachian" organ piece you're referring to:

What type of music was used during the main titles?

Hello Micke and the others,
Yes, this "Bachian" piece on solo church organ is the end titles, and it lasts 1'55 (it is cut in your excerpt)

The main titles is totally different : a slow piece performed by strings (1'30), in the vein of "Genniao 1957 : accerchiamento della Casbah" from La battaglia di Algeri, surely a sort of eye-glance or a reminiscence.

Thanks for posting those two clips, Eda :)

The piece for solo pipe organ is very beautiful indeed (I love the sound of the organ).
Let's hope it's on the upcoming CD along with the opening track. The unreleased version
of "Chiesa di S. Francesco in Borya" might be the music heard during end titles since the
running time of this track (1:54) is about the sane.

The end title organ piece is not on the new CD.
Very probably it was a classical composition chosen by Pontecorvo, and not an original composition by Morricone.
The opening track from the movie is present.
The sound quality is far superior compared with the bad, distorted sound of the old Phoenix LP.
