International Music Composition Award "Goffredo Petrassi" III edition
WEDNESDAY 17th, FEBRUARY 2010 – 5.00 PM,
at The Auditorium of the Conservatory of Music of Latina
(Via Ezio,32 - tel. 0773 664173)
with the presence of the Jury, composed by Mº Ennio Morricone (President) and by the Maestri Antonio Poce and Paolo Rotili,
will conclude the Third Edition for the International Musical Composition Award “Goffredo Petrassi” organized by the Association “Ars Latina” and the Municipality of Latina in collaboration with the Conservatory of Music of Latina
(Free Entrance)
The initiative has been carried with the contribution of the Municipality of Latina and the Province of Latina and thanks to the precious collaboration with the Conservatory of Music of Latina which, one more time, has greatly supported this important International Musical Composition Award.
The jury and the Maestro Morricone have been satisfied verifying that the general level for the works already screened has been increased compared to the last edition.
The candidates are mainly young people coming from Italy and other European countries (Germany, Spain, France and others).
The students and teachers of the Conservatory will perform six of the works presented to the Award: three free compositions and three pieces of applied music. The contest stated that the candidates could engage in both areas of composition.
The film in which the candidates have been working will be screened in the hall during the performance. Petrassi, one of the world’s greatest composers of our time, recently deceased, and who with the city of Latina had an important relationship of collaboration.
To be inspired by Petrassi not only means to make reference to a composer of an undisputed value appreciated around the world, but also and above all to be inspired by his teaching of the artist’s ethic, which requires that each note written by the composer can respond to a particular reason, to a real need creative and expressive without concessions and compromises, regardless of whether it is for the pure enjoyment of music or application in a play or film.
In this sense, entrust the Presidency of the Jury to Ennio Morricone, represents at the same time an unique opportunity to confer to the initiative the international prestige that could place it at the very first place in Italy and abroad, but also the best possible sign of consistency with the dedication to Goffredo Petrassi of which Morricone was perhaps the most beloved student and certainly the best known in the world.
